My Online School Essentials

For most of us, 2020 has been a year full of online EVERYTHING. At this point doing classes online feels like second nature to me now that I am used to doing class and work all from home. These essentials will help make the at-home grind a little bit easier.

1. A Lap Desk

Lapdesk

This year having a good working set up became more essential than ever. But having so many meetings online suddenly I could not sit in one spot for 8 hours a day on the computer. I don’t think I could ever have a desk job LOL. The way I handled this was by moving to different spots in the house with my lap desk and my little school/work set up. Having a lap desk meant I could do school while lounging on the couch if I was tired of sitting at my desk!!

2. Blue Light Glasses

If you’re like the rest of the world, your screen time is probably ridiculous now. Although I have been trying to spend some time off screen doing things like reading books or going on walks, there is no avoiding that so much of our life exists online. Having a pair of solid blue light blocking glasses is an absolute game changer. Something so simple – but I can always notice the difference the screen has when it comes to eye strain. Everyone needs a good pair of them!

3. Slippers

I am back at a dorm for the school year, but I don’t have any classes in person for the fall semester. Because of this, I have been living in my chill outfits with slippers. I’m not sure if this is a good sign or a bad one, but I rarely put on closed toed shoes *yikes* I know. I am absolutely obsessed with my Ugg slippers. They’re a little obnoxious, but I can’t go without them.

4. A Picnic Blanket

Picnic Blanket

Okay, I would be lying if I said the Texas heat wasn’t sometimes way too much. But getting outside to study or spend time with friends has been one of the things that has been keeping me sane during this time of social distancing. Whenever I get the chance I take my picnic blanket and set up outside to get some fresh air.

5. My iPad Air

This one is totally extra, but getting an iPad makes online school so much more fun. I have the Canvas app on it because it’s the platform professors use at my college to distribute assignments, readings, and grades. Now I take my iPad outside and get all my readings done and annotate them with my Apple pencil. If I didn’t need my computer for editing videos I would probably switch to using an iPad full time. Definitely worth the investment!
